Cognitive biases can have a significant impact on the accuracy of diagnoses. This presentation will teach you how to approach diagnostic reasoning to reduce errors. External Link Empathy in Action: How to Navigate and Share Difficult News (13 minutes)

Contrary to popular belief, communication about end-of-life issues does not increase patient distress. In fact, 95% of Americans say they would be willing to talk about their wishes, and 53% say they’d be relieved to discuss it. Early discussions about goals of care leads to improved quality of life, enhanced goal-consistent care, positive family outcomes, reduced costs, and reduced use of nonbeneficial medical care near death. In this module, you will learn effective frameworks to communicate serious news to patients while considering individual goals and values.

One in nine patients over the age of 45 worries about memory loss, and up to 25% of patients over the age of 65 have mild cognitive impairment. Cognitive screening helps to identify which patients have these pathologic changes.
